The four forms of multimodal writing above are the most popular, but there are countless examples. Web design would count as another form. Students are constantly consuming and creating multimodal texts, but this does not equate to an actual understanding of multimodal text meaning or production.

Modern writing involves traditional literacy as well as technological literacy. This makes sense as these texts are usually produced in a collaborative, tech-heavy environment. Students learn how to produce podcasts, graphics, images and videos in the same way they learn to produce essays, not through lecture or solitary activity, but through tactile collaboration.
