Why Change Writing?
Communication in the 21st century is no longer text-based. Meaning is conveyed more commonly through a tapestry of text, image, video, movement and space. Students must be well-versed in all aspects of digital literacy and content creation to succeed.
Modern writing is no longer static and linear, as it is taught through the writing process in school. Texts that are produced now are dynamic and collaborative. Schools must instruct students on the process of multimodal text production with the same focus that is applied to the traditional writing process to adequately prepare them for the real world.

Multimodal writing is about more than digital literacy. Way back in the 1970's we discovered that a "verbocentric" view of literacy was limiting. Focusing more on semiotic communication allows students to demonstrate more complex thoughts while attaching greater social meaning to their communications.
